Water Filter

New water filter is the big white canister on the far left

It's been a while since we posted about a project.  Just because we are away from the dock it doesn't mean the maintenance and or projects stop.  Tom was finally able to get our water filter installed.  No more chunky water.  Just kidding.  Actually, we have been drinking our tank water from day one.  I know this grosses some people out.  It was a conscious decision we made when we purchased this fabulous boat with big tankage.  Why have 200 gallons of water if you can't/won't drink it!  When people come onboard as guests we tell them we drink the water but then offer them bottled water if they want.  We haven't died, gotten sick or grown an extra eye.  Our tanks are clean for the most part and we do add a capful of bleach to each tank each time we fill.  *Please no comments or discussion about the evils of doing this.  It's one small cap in 100 gallons of water.
Previous project Tom installed this access panel installing this was much, much easier

This has been on our list of TO DO but not necessarily before we left the dock.  Tom purchased all the stuff for the project at Home Depot in Brunswick GA before we left.  Big thanks to Dick and Deb for showing us the setup on their boat and helping us find the right stuff.  While we were waiting out the weather in Southport NC, Tom installed it and got it running.  I will say the water does taste better.  Actually there is NO taste.  Check this one off as complete.

  1. Don't know why people freak on bleach. As far as I can tell, Annapolis tap water is directly hooked up to the Clorox plant. Not judging, I LOVE Annapolis, but it was definitely a STRONG chlorine taste.

  2. I can remember traveling all over this country as a kid and the taste of tap water changed more than the accents.

  3. Using bleach is much safer than doing nothing at all, as who knows what can be in the water, and at least this will kill off bacteria. But having a water filter installed is definitely the right way to go about it. This will filter out all of the bacteria, along with many other contaminants that could be lurking in your drinking water, along with anything that is floating.
