Day At the Beach - Go Fly a Kite or Sail a Hobie

Not too crowded
We decided that we need to take a day off and go to the beach.  I know some of you might be thing "What the heck?  Take a day off?  You are retired!"  True but we have been working really hard stowing everything, getting it all organized, and starting/completing projects and we just needed to take a day off from all of that so yesterday we went to the beach.
My mofongo with cracklin chicken
Our first stop on the way to the beach was a new local restaurant that specializes in Puerto Rican food.  We went for lunch because they have really restricted hours 11-3.  We both had mofongo - green plantains mashed with butter and garlic, rolled up in balls and fried.  Tom had his with fried pork and I had might with cracklin chicken (fried bits of chicken).  It was good although Tom's fried pork was a bit chewy.
Kewl little place for Hobie cats and wind surfers
All greased up - inside (from the fried food) and outside (sunscreen), we headed for St Simon's Island and the beach.  We went to the main beach which we had never been to before.  On the walk from the parking lot to beach, we passed by a gated area with tons of Hobie cats inside.
George's special stand for working on one of his many cats
There was a guy working on his cat just inside the gate.  He said  "Hey y'all.  How are you doin today?"  about the same time I said "Wow, they have a big Hobie fleet."  Magic words....."Would you like to come in and check out our little club?"  Ah.....yeah!
120 spots for cats and multiple sheds for wind surfer storage
George graciously showed us around their little patch of grass and told us all about the St Simon's Surf Sailor's club as well as St Simon's and the surrounding area.  He invited us back for a Hobie cat regatta June 22nd so stay tuned for more on that.  Since they have their own private entrance to the beach, he allowed us to use that.  Very kewl guy.
Look closely - sailboat is aground - never cut the corner coming into St Simon

The beach was terrific and the water refreshing.  Just what we needed on a very hot day.
Tom enjoying his kite
Tom took advantage of perfect wind to try out a kite that he has had for close to 10 yrs.  He got it up immediately and had fun trying out different moves.
